Hi there....

PC is locking up only when I use the windows log in. If I <esc> instead of using a login name it works fine. The pc will freeze for 5-10 secs, then realese for 30 sec, then do it again. I've noticed if I CTRL-ALT-DEL, it tells me there is "WinOldAp" running and if I close it it says it cannot close ms-dos program "Net". This must be the culprit, but I can't find why it keeps loading it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

find all *.pwl files, delete or change the suffix.
reboot.

i doubt its oldapp, but im not familiar with it.

if this doesnt fix it, then reinstall windows over itself if 98 or me.

1. It is likely, your autoexec.bat contains a login routine. YOu can edit AutoExec.bat and insert a REM before any login routines.

2. YOu can run START-> ProgrameFiles->Accessories-> SYstemTools->SYstemInformation.
In this, there is a provision to choose or not choose the Auto starting programes.
You can remove the culprit routine from starting.

Hope this helps you ramani :-9

It sounds like you have bad settings in your network Properties.

Control Panel / Network Properties

Check "Primary Network Logon" pull-down Window

It should be set to "Windows Logon" or "MS Family Logon", Not "Client MS Network Logon".

If "Client for Microsoft Networks" is installed (shown in the big window on top)double click on it. Make sure the "Log on to Windows NT Domain" box is UN-CHECKED. and on the bottom of this same window, choose "Quick logon" / Click "OK"

Under the Access Control Tab check that it is set to
"Share-level access control"

Click OK out of all windows (you may need your windows installation disks)

It will then ask you to re-boot.

That should do it.

If it doesn't you need to look at your ISP software. Sometimes MSN or others install some network components that go bad. Uninstall ISP and reinstall

GOOD LUCK
