Some of my users have been getting an intermittent problem where on their XP Pro computers, when they go to open up a file from the 2003 Server, they get a read-only (file locked) message. These files aren't actually being used by anyone else. I don't see anyone else accessing that file when I look at the shard resource usage.

Does anyone have any idea where I might start running this problem down from?

go to the share, reapply the permissions and choose to overwrite all under advanced.

Try this

Start - Run - MMC
Add in the "Shared Folders" snap in
Then under "Open Files" you can see who has the file open and close it if you want.
