I have on my desktop an excel file that is locked by another user. I can open the file as Read only.
My PC is not on a network and I would like to just delete this file.
So far I cannot find a way to do this. Is there a way to just delete this file or do I need to see it forever?
Thanks for any help.

What OS are you running?

Not sure about Win98, but in NT, if you have administrative rights to the PC, you can take ownership of a file and then delete it. You might try right clicking on the file and view the properties to see if there is a way to take ownership or change the attributes of the file.

I tried this but it didn't do anytging. Thanks anyway

try going into safe mode and deleting it from there. Worst case is to boot into DOS and delete it.
