On my web server running W2K advanced sever I have lost the ability to "lock computer". Can anyone help me get this facility back?

Hey!

Almost sounds like the network settings are set to always log on to Win2000AS using the same user.

To change this:
1. Right-click on My Computer
2. Select Properties
3. Select the Network Identification tab
4. Click on the Network ID button
5. Follow all prompts and then tell the wizard that you want users to select names for logon

Or, you might try:
1. Go to Control Panel
2. Open the Users and Passwords applet
3. Select the checkbox next to the topmost selection
'Users must select username and password to logon'

Hope this helps!

Many thanks for your reply, unfortunately neither will help, I cannot go past the Network Identification tab as suggested and in control panel there is no applet for user/password.

Two points of interest here, in case they make a difference, the server is a Primary Domain Controller and is running Active Directory.

Any further suggestions please?!!

Have you installed any new programs on the system recently?
What changed between when it worked and when it didn't? A+, MCP, MCP+I, MCSE Windows NT 4.0, MCSE Windows 2000 Early Acheiver with Security Emphasis

Users is in active directory users and computers on a W2K server running Active directory.
Check the loacl security policies and see if you have a policy set that disables the ability to lock the computer.

I cannot find any local security policies as the server is running as a PDC!

I do not know why I lost this facility as a "helper" did something unknown to me that resulted in disabling "lock computer".
