Does anyone know how I can open a table view and prevent users from entering information in a column.
I did initially place the tables on a SQL server and do a column lock but although, in pricipal, it works. It's not user friendly.

What I want is some people to be able to edit the entire table whilst others can only edit a few fields.

If this can't be done, I can achieve what I want by being able to trap system error messages from Access so any help on this would also be appreciated.

If you do need it in table view, what you could do is create a form and all the fields in from the table, then select the fields you don't want people to edit and set the Locked property to Yes. You can then set the Form view to Datasheet and they will be unable to edit the columns which relate to the fields you set to Locked.

You could add a procedure to check who was accessing the database and lock or unlock the particular fields depending on what access they require.

Addy,
Thanks for the input. My only question I suppose is, short of using system security, what's to stop a user unhiding the database window and still accessing the tables directly?.
