There's an Excel 2000 spreadsheet here at work that when opened, the user will get a "File Not Found" window that gives the name of another Excel file that it's trying to link to. I never use this file, nor did I have anything to do with creating it, so I have no idea which cell or cells in the spreadsheet refer to this second spreadsheet.

Is there a way to locate the cell(s) quickly? I'd appreciate any ideas. Thanks!

Hi wuneyej,

First, try using Edit/Find with the workbook name on each sheet.

Second, there might be a named range reference in Insert/Name/Define. Check each reference listed.

Hope this helps :)

there is a way to do this, it is explained in the help files, i'll copy and paste it in here.

There is no automatic way to find links used in a workbook. However, because links use brackets [ ] to enclose the source workbook name when it is closed, you can search for it. For example =SUM([Budget.xls]Annual!C10:C25).

Close all workbooks except the one you want to find the links in.
On the Edit menu, click Find.
Click Options.
In the Find what box, enter [.
In the Within box, click Workbook.
In the Look In box, click Formulas.
Click Find All.
In the box at the bottom, look in the Formula column for formulas that contain [.
To select the cell with a link, select the row in the box at the bottom.
Links are also commonly used in names, text boxes, or chart titles.

Hope this will help
