Hello all!

500v2 here. I was trying to change auto attendant greetings recently (unsuccessful), and noticed that locale is set to Saudi Arabia (english).
I [wish I haven't] changed it to my actual location, UAE(english) - and this caused me lots of problems:
1. as it turns out, UAE(english) is not english, but arabic.
2. trying to record a new AA message via *8401 does not work at all - previously I could press "2" to record a new one, but "2 to finish recording" didn't work. Now, even "2 to change recording" gives me "DISCONNECTED" signal
3. when I changed Locale back to Saudi Arabia (english), the PBX was just ignored incoming calls.

So I had to set it to UAE([not so] english) again - or incoming calls didn't work. But it still speaks to me in arabic, and I still cannot create/modify anything about AA greetings... Any help?

it is what it says on the tin see below from manager help file.

The system Locale sets factors such as the default ringing tones and caller display settings. The locale also controls the default language that the system voicemail server will use for prompts.

Users and incoming call routes can also be set to a locale. That locale will then override the system settings for calls to voicemail.

· Voicemail:
These columns indicate for which locales the different voicemail servers can provide the appropriate language prompts. In all cases, the system locale can be overridden by setting a different user locale.

· EVM:
Indicates that the locale is recognized by Embedded Voicemail and appropriate language prompts are then used.

Then this is from KB embedded installation.

The IP Office system Locale setting is used to determine the default language prompts used. A Locale setting is set for the whole IP Office system. For individual users and incoming call routes the system local can be overridden.

For calls to voicemail, the locale used is determined as follows:

• The user locale, if set, is used if the caller is internal.
• The incoming call route locale, if set, is used if caller is external.
• If no user or incoming call route locale is applicable, the system locale is used.
• A short code locale, if set, is used and overrides the options above if the call is routed to voicemail using the short code.

Fallback languages
If a selected Locale is not supported, embedded voicemail uses a fallback language. The fallback language is used depends on the configuration mode used by the IP Office server (Essential, Partner, Quick, or Norstar).

If your voicemail configuration requires a locale that has not been downloaded to the IP Office server, a warning message displays to indicate which locale is missing. If you do not add the locales, Manager will use the fallback languages listed in the table below.

After a local change you need to reboot ...hope that helps

Thanks... So I suspect that guys who's been setting up the system in the first place used Saudi Arabia (English) instead of UAE, because UAE's english was missing... And they must have somehow modified all the parameters like "default ringing tones" to UAE standard... though I cannot understand which ones and where.

Anyway, the arabic prompt in AA/voicemail doesn't scare me too much because I know what it said before :) but, it still does not work.
Can you think of a way to fix the Auto Attendant?

The locale also does set all settings for trunks (most cannot be seen and changed)
Some countries have for example ISDN2 and when you use a locale for a country that does not have ISDN 2 then it just won't work.

You really need to use the right local.
When something does not work like it should work then you should raise a bug with your Avaya business partner.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!
