Local Backups Taking 20= hours for 239GB

I am running BE 9.1 with the latest SP and my backups are taking way to long. I am using an ADIC Scaler24 with LTO2 tapes. I have noticed that if I set the job to run on a LTO1 the throughput goes up to about 1.8GB per minute where as before it was as low a 100MB/minute. This Backup job is backing up files that reside locally on the same server that BE is running.
