We have a MS Access database just migrated to Windows 2003 Small Business Server. Previously it ran on a file sharing star topology. The database is split and has a FE on each local workstation and a BE on the server.

There is one form that will load only when the user signed on is an administrator at the server. Individual users are recognized as local administrators for each workstation, but even with this change, they cannot load this form. The form "frame" and buttons load, but not the fields.

Other forms will load when standard users log on, but not this one. We have 512K or 256K for ram at each station.

Can anyone offer suggestions as to the problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is the backend on MsSql2000/2005 or is at the business server as an .mdb?

Thanks for responding. The back end is an mdb. We are planning next month to convert to MySQL.

Just some thoughts...

1. If the form loads, but doesn't display the data, you have to check if there is any data to display. Open the form in designmode, check its recordsource, run the query/table.

2. If the form loads, but there is no data, there maybe specific permissions set on the underlying table(s). Check permissions.

Hi Again

I checked your recommendations, and one permission was part of the problem. I think we violated the KISS principle because I am performing a number of recommended optimization steps that should let it fully load.

In the meantime, can you think of any reason that MS Access will not let me make an MDE file?

Thanks again, Pete

Hi Pete,
Please start a new thread if it is a new issue, so everyone can have a go or look at it.

For now, I'm not sure why yo could not make and MDE. But if you later this month want to convert to MySql (or is it MsSql?) as a backend, maybe it is a good idea to get rid of all the current security, convert the dbase back end, and rebuild the sequirity. MsSql2000/2005 comes with a whole own security system (but which can be integrated with the Small Business Server)

Your help on the first issue was great. I'll post on the MDE matter when I have more info (thanks for the reminder on not doing posts within posts).

Have a great day, Pete

Tnx Pete,
Just a question, since I'm not familiair with SBS. I see SBS 2003 R2 comes with a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition. Are you gonna use that?? Just curious.

The workgroup edition for MS SQL server comes with the premium version. Purchasing didn't order that, but we're going to upgrade.

Wish us luck.

Thanks again, Pete

Good luck Pete!!
