I am trying to create an LMHost file and I don't know if I have it made correctly. Is there anybody out there who can give me an example...Pertaining to W2K and the NetBIOS name.

Lets say my domain is named "NANO", my computer DC name is "MSEATER" so my FQDM is "mseater.nano.com" and the DC has an IP of 192.168.5.5.

I need to put this on a remote computer to see if this helps with browsing over the WAN.
Thanks

1. look at lmhosts.sam, it's a sample file.
2. it's simple as ip tab name....

Thanks,
I looked at that plus MS website and think I got it made correctly. What I did next was put it on one of my remote VPN connected office computers and I was finally able to browse the Domain here.

But now what I am a little confused on is why can they now see us but we cannot see them? I have put a LMHost file on my machine with the computer names of the remote office, but they do not show up. Do I have to put a LMHost file on the servers here as well? Or what do I need to be able to see them?
Thanks

The FQDN is only used in hosts files. Thats for internet access type stuff. (I have an address on a server I connect a lot through the internet for uploading my website) LMHOSTS is Lan Manager, so all you need is everything you did without the .nano.com, and create a hosts file with the .nano.com and see what that does. Thanks,
I have created the LMHost file and now one subnet across the VPN tunnel can see us, but we cannot see them here.
Why / How is this? Isn't it supposed to be both ways?

Make sure both host and lmhosts files are the same. It could be wrong on a local machine, not the VPN. Glen A. Johnson
