This is a relativly embarrasing question, but I am at wits end here.
I have a 2k dns server from which i would like to host live domains. My logic said that all i needed was to point a domain name from another dns server to my dns server, and i would then be able to use my dns server to point domains to IP's. This sadly has not been working.
So basically my question is what process must i go through to make my dns server capable of becoming authoritative for domains outside of my local network. I have mapped port 53 through my router, and can confirm that all is correct with DNS.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

When you register a domain name you will need to list your router's external IP as the primary nameserver. This will have dns queries for that domain directed to your dns server for resolution. You should also find a secondary nameserver to host your dns info. You can run a second nameserver or have someone else host the dns info for you.
