ARCserve 2000 SP5, latest device support patch. Dell 130T 30 slot/3 head library. Library option installed.

I'm getting the following errors. I can't find any reference to the error code 000006BA. Can anyone point me in right direction? Is there a list?

E3714 Unable to write to media. (MEDIA=W-NTGFS-FRI- 2/20/04, EC=000006BA)
E3712 Unable to close session. (EC=000006BA)

Thanks!

E3714 - the 3xxx codes are from Task (task is the part of the program the actually runs the job)

Unable to write to media - writing data to media is handled by the Tape Engine.

000006BA - this is hex, convert to dec and it =s 1722, 1722 is a windows error for RPC server is unavailable.

The different engines communicate via RPC. So communication between Task and the Tape Engine failed. This is not to say that the RPC service had a problem but just that there was some communication problem between the two.

If this is reproducable then put both the Job and Tape Engines in debug and try it again.

David Michael,
I have read many times the suggestion of puting job and Tape engines in debug, but how do you do it, and more important, how is it useful to you? isn't it a list of weird messages which aren't comprenhensible. (Actually my arcserve console shows a Tape log with messages that are no help for me cause i dont understand)

Thanks in advance,
mespe.

faqs man ck the faqs.

As for understanding them, the activity log should not be too much of a problem. It is the tape log that can be hard to read, but in my case as the saying goes Bo Knows, and this bo knows SCSI.

In your case you get the time stamp of the error in the activity log and match that up to the time in the tape log and copy that part pluss a little before it into the thread and then someone like me can explain.

Lets shoot from the hip, ck the faqs under Tape Engine for the one on Which Driver to Use. There is a good chance that one might take care of your problem.
