IPO 500v2 R7; Embedded VM (unfortunately)
Does anyone know if there's a way to listen/monitor externally transferred calls? Have no problem listening in on internal local phones...
Perhaps offer up any alternatives besides half-tapping the lines to some analog phones or some expensive call-recording device.

Unless there are some cheap alternatives to a call recording device that someone may know of...

you can do it with SIP but you will need to find a 3rd part app (wireshark can do it) that picks off the audio stream

Please explain "externally transferred". It can have several meanings depending on the type of trunking facilities connected to the IPO. For example, if you are using Centrex lines to do the call transfer, then one once the call is transferred, it is gone and the line is free for another call. That would be the same situation on Primary ISDN with "B channel transfer". So, in those or similar cases once the connection is released from the IPO, no further monitoring can take place.

Thanks for the replies guys. hairless is on the right track to an alternative, unfortunately this Customer is not going to give up their "unlimited calling" POTS lines for SIP, they are very cheap and would not like the setup, i.e. possible loss of internet connection.
In answer to Syquest; I understand, they don't have Centrex. they would not be transferring using feature such as hook-flash, they have POTS lines and would just do a normal transfer to an outside number utilizing a secondary line off the system.

Do you need to listen into the calls live or is it enough to record them and listen later?
If you can listen later then enable recording for the user you forward it to, that is if you actually do have that and not transfer to an external number manually.
I can see several scenarios in my head (together with all the voices talking to me)
1. transferred calls to users that use forwarding to their cell phone
2. calls are transferred to outside numbers manually
3. I forgot because the voices were talking

1 is easy if you have VM Pro, just enable the recording
2 is trickier but I am sure we can figure something out
3 is my own problem

but listening into a live call that is on 2 external trunks (one in and one out) is probably tricky, can't think of a way to do it right now but would need to play with a system.

Thanks Westi,
However:
1. As stated above they don't have VM Pro, and as far as my knowledge leads me to believe, can't record with Embedded.
2. I've tried "Listen/Monitor" solution where calls are transferred by an extension forwarded to external number; didn't work.
3. you should probably get that checked, can be quite distracting
