Another newbie question - sorry to be a bother!
I just added a new pc to a three pc home network that was working perfectly. I have a 4 port hub used to share a cable modem internet connection. All 3 machines are running winxp pro (sp2). All 3 machines can access the internet.
2 of the original machines can still see each other on the network and share files/printers - the new machine cannot see the other 2.
The new machine (let's call it P4) has the same workgroup name, which I've changed on all 3 pcs - mshome
ipconfig /all shows a different default gateway and an IP address that's not in the same range as the other 2 pcs.
Steps I've taken
I've added NETBUI to all three machines - no luck, so removed it
I've renamed the workgroup from its original tzone to mshome - no luck
I've I've uninstalled the NIC from the new pc and let PNP reinstall it - no luck
I've called my ISP and they say there's no way to force the cable company to assign new IP addresses, subnet masks and default gateway parameters to my home network
This must have happened to others - any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, dhamments
