I am getting frustrated with these Linux boxes, I cannot get VM to email working on it. I have a hmailserver loaded as the Linux box only allows port 25 to send SMTP. But I still get errors, looks like the receiver does not like something. Just not sure what.
Thanks Mike

The hmailserver is also telling me "530 SMTP Authentication is required" how do I get this in the hmailserver. I have set the server up before never needed this?
Thanks Mike

That is clear to me, you will need to setup authorization on the SMTP settings for VMPro.

Thats the rub, the hosted email asks for authorization but I cannot get the VM pro to send what the hosted exchange is looking for. I have Outlook installed and using the same credentials with no issues but the VM Pro will not work. I have tried using both microsoft hosted email (Office365) and comcast email. The hosted look for the email on port 587 but the Linux box is locked to use port 25. I am stuck and have been working on this for 2 days, this is ridiculous what was easy to set up Avaya has made impossible with this Linux box. Sorry for the rant nerves are short.
Mike

You can change the port.
Login with the VMPro client and press F9 (Administration -> preferences -> general)
Go to the tab email -> SMTP sender and then click on the account to change the port.

I was told by Westcon TS that this is locked in the Linux Apps server box to use only port 25, it is a restriction in the Linux box.

From the help in VMPro:

· Port Number
This is port to which messages are sent, usually 25.

This means that it mostly is 25 but it doe snot say that this is fixed.
Also would this option not be changeable if you could not change it.
Try it from your pc to the server to test the if the port works:

To test type "Telnet <the name of the SMTP server> 25".

First test with port 25 and then the port you need.

According to TS it cannot be changed. The linux box will only use port 25, the Linux box has VM Pro on it so I am tied to it and its limitations.

I could change it on my machine so i doubt your conclusion :)
I just tried it on a 8.1 machine, what version are you on?
Perhaps it is a version issue.

I don't know but maybe this file does something:

/opt/bin/smtpd.py

In there you will some line with port 25

8.0, when you say change it do you mean in the VM Pro program or the Linux box?

mine is using port 26, so it can be changed

open the vm pro client and hit F9, go to Email - SMTP sender and put your credentials into that including the changed port

Like me and Westi say in the VMPro client.
Then you ofcourse save this and then it will be changed on the server.

Do I need a relay for this or should this work without it. I always get the authorization error.

The hosted exchange is using TLS encryption will it still work direct from the VM Pro client? I still cannot get this working.
Mike

TLS cannot be done so you will need to do relay.

That is why I loaded hmail server according to Kyle's instruction, but that also get a authentication error 530. Is there another way to do this? And does anyone have a white paper on it?
Mike

Can I use the VMPro MAPI client for this installation, will it do the TLS or SSL encryption?
