OK, simple question. Have a couple of servers running Linux Man9.1. One server has a collection of mp3 files and I want to play them from the other Linux server.

What is the easiest way to do this. Will be using XMMS as the player and all the mp3 are in the .ogg format.

Thanks

Chris.

what about sharing the drives with nfs so it becomes like a local drive

you use the mount command

You meant Audio streaming server.
Check this website : and get IceCast program.
You can use IceCast Version 1 for MP3 stream and Version 2 for Ogg Vorbis stream.
Good Luck....:)

if it's only for local network use, use NFS ( i concurr with eanda10) to mount the directory remotely.

Depends on what you want. You can use any transport mechanism like NFS, CIFS(SMB), AFP as long as both linux servers have access.

If you want to share music, then yes you couls create a streaming server.
