Dear Gurus,

I am new to linux and want to implement linux(red hat 7.2) with squid firewall at my office. I worked on linux but not in squid. Let me know, is squid freeware, if it is where will I get squid proxy. How do i start? What are all the things(NIC's) need to enable the same on linux?

Squid is not a firewall. It comes with the RedHat package so you shouldn't need to download it.
It will probably work out of the box.

I don't understand your last question.

I can use squid as proxy server. If it is I should have two network interface card on my linux machine. One is for internal IP and 2nd is for external IP. If it is correct, How do i configure my NIC's.

for ex. card 1: 180.2.3.4 gateway ?????
card 2: 203.3.12.1 gateway ?????

If you use 2 NICS (not necessary unless your Linux server is acting as a firewall or transparent proxy), then one would have a public IP address, and the other a private one. If you have subnets in your private network, you'll need static routes for those. The default route should point to the internet router.

You can also use one NIC and configure it like any other workstation on your LAN. That means, though, that a) every browser must be configured with the proxy IP address and b) the traffic on that NIC will be roughly double (request by user, out to web, in from web, back to user). I use the 2-NIC method myself, with transparent proxy and firewall (by netfilter).

Your distribution comes with an old version, I'd download the current release from squid-cache.org. I use 2.5-STABLE3 and it works nicely.
