Justin
Thanks a bunch

If you're tryinh to connect from outside the network throught the router, it has to have some way to translate either name or IP to the internal machines.

You really haven't given enough information about your setup to give any good answers, though, like what VPN software you're using, which machine it is running on, etc.

OK, I am running windows XP and 2000 to connect to a Linksys router. The computer that will be connected to runs Windows XP Professional, and the computer being used to connect to it tis running Windows 2000. I am using the programs that already came with my computer(Windows 2000), you set it up for use in the network settings, so that you can connect to the IP and then I will use to remote desktop to connect to the computer on the LAN that I am connecting to.

This is all that i know, so any guidance on this would be much appreciated

Do you have a DNS name?

You will also have to setup the linksys to accept IPSec communications.

ok, i dont have anything set up yet other than my computer can accept incomming calls and such.
