CTmtnbkr,
I've been there before. I can feel your pain! Take heart, it WILL get better.
Running all the computers with a 255.0.0.0 subnet mask means that you are considering ALL the possible IP addresses between 10.0.0.1 and 10.255.255.255 to be in the same subnet. In your case, it probably will not do any harm but is not really good design.
Using dynamic addressing is not difficult. As long as you need to change the config on each machine, you have two choices:
[ul][li]Set the subnet mask on each to 255.255.255.0 and leave the static IP address as is.[/li]
[li]Set each of the machines to use dynamic addressing by checking off "Obtain IP address automatically" in the TCP/IP properties. That's really all there is to it.[/li][/ul]
You might want to do this for all workstations and leave any servers as static. You can mix both setups with no problems as long as you keep the static addresses out of the DHCP range.
Glad I could be of help. You'll get there someday. Probably sooner than you think. The fact that you can state a question clearly, reason it through and post back with the results is a tremendous help to the lurkers here who, for whatever reason, need help but haven't asked. If even one of them learns something, you have helped and should feel good about it.
Best regards,
