Hello,
I am using Crystal XI and trying to link to an Access MDE database. I get a fatal error and Crystal shuts down when I try to establish a connection. I've used CRystal in the past to link to MBD and SQL databases....never and MDE though. Can I even link up to this type of database? Thanks

An MDE is an executable, not a DB. I don't believe you can do this.

There is no difference between using an mdb or an mde.
How are you trying to connect? I use the direct Access/Excel(DAO) and have no problems.

Maybe there is a problem with the mde file?

I am trying connecting via Access/Excel (DAO). The error that comes up is'CRW32.exe encountered a problem and needs to close". I just don't know if closing because of a problem with MDE file or if because there is a bug in Crystal 11. Any ideas?

I'm using version 11 on the machine I'm sitting at now. I can use mde files from access97 through to Access 2003.
I don't think it's possible to draw any conclusion about where the problem lies unless you try a different mde file.

I just tried a differnt MDE file and it linked up with Crystal OK. It's strange...the MDE file I want to link up with is a secured database. If I don't enter in the username/password when linking Crystal up to it, I can view all the table names. When I go back and do enter in the username and password, that's when I get the CRW32.exe error and it shuts down. I have run all the updates for Crystal....no luck though.

This is an error you get from Crystal designer or from an application using the Crystal runtime components?

Hi Ido!
It's an error I get from Crystal designer. All I am doing is using the report wizard to create a new report. When I link to the secured MDE database, Crystal gives me the error and shuts down.

P.S. I'm a big fan of Visual Cut! Great program

I just tried connecting via ODBC...Crystal lets me connect OK..., but when I go to select a view or a table, it says I don't have permission to. I entered in the database password in the OBDC connection. I'm pretty new with ODBC...any ideas what I could be doing wrong.
