I posted this in the Cisco:Routers forum by accident, sorry.

I have two brand new 3560s and need to link them via a SPF Patch Cable (CAB-SFP-50CM=) I have the cable but cannot get the switches to link. When I plug in the cable I get

"2d00h: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: gbic-invalid error detected on Gi0/50, putting Gi0/50
in err-disable state"

I have tried a couple of sifferent things with no success.

Has anyone ever linked using this cable?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Kyle K.

This is usually due to bad or non-Cisco approved SPF module...

Try to get some working or new SPF module/patch cables and try again. Or if you have spare 3560 switches, plug the new SPF patch cord to the switches and test again.

Actually, the 3560s and the SFP Patch Cable are all brand new fresh out of the box. We have the same setup in a different building and can't get that patch cable to work either so I am pretty sure it is something I am doing (or not doing) and not bad equipment. We can link them via Fiber just fine.

Thanks for your help,
Kyle

I have the same problem. Brand new switches and cables displaying the same "disable state" error message.

What IOS is on the 3560's? The release notes state you need at lease 12.2(20)EX to support the SFP Module Patch cable.

I figured out that the 3650s need 12.2(20)ex to support the crossover cable yesterday and now they work great. Thanks for your help guys.
