A customer has a specialized Broadcast Telephone system they wish to connect to the Opt 11. This system is primarily intended to connect to a CO switch. The system is working fine with the CO PRI. However there have been integration issues with the Nortel. It supports PRI and T1 robbed bit E&M Wink start using DP 10 pps in and out.

If they use a PRI between the systems they were not able to route calls coming into the Nortel over to the new system. The only way to do so was to use a workaround where calls for the DIDs in question are routed to an extension set to forward calls. Apparently this is due to limitations on Nortel's architecture with regards to trunk to trunk connectivity.

The problem with this workaround is that the customer wants ring-no-answer to be answered by the Opt 11's voice mail system. Apparently once control is given over to a trunk interface it is no longer monitored for RNA, busy, etc.

The other complaint is that other PBX stations cannot transfer calls to the broadcast system.

I have seen this done on a Definity. As I recall there this was done doing using a "follow me feature". It has also been done on Mitel PBXs.

The customer has also investigate using a T1 card to do this. Apparently this is meant for remote stations so the remote analog terminals look like inside extensiosn on the Nortel. However apparently only loopstart robbed bit signaling is available fo ruse with this card.

The broadcast system does support E&M wink start robbed bit signaling, but apparently the Opt 11 can't use that.

Any ideas how to make this work with the Opt 11c? The original Nortel rep said he could make this work, and then just gave up. Another Nortel programmer was able to make it work with a workaound, but this does nto meet the customers expectations.

it will take a work around.. nortel does support e&m.. i work on both the mitel and several others.. your looking for co interface from a pbx... if you could support loop start then a line side would be perfect.. nortel does not have any problem with trunk to trunk... ive installed networks with 40 ties to and from a dozen switches, if switch a acd group does not answer in time, the calls tandems over 2 or 3 routes to an acd that has a shorter wait time.. tandem trunking is blocked by default to help prevent fraud but the bypass takes 2 seconds.. wish i was in the switchroom, the cure's there.. just need to find it

Not cheap, but you could put an Adtran Atlas 550 between the Nortel PBX line-side card and the Telos PRI.

Basically, set up the one Atlas T1 port as a robbed-bit signalling on one side, and the other port as PRI.

Check with Adtran tech support - they have always been helpful in the past.

Of course, if you had a budget, its been thrown out the window now.

Thanks.

It looks like the lineside T1 can support Ground starft, so we'll be trying that. That does sacrifice some finctionality, butseems like the best all around solution.

John,

Does enabling trunk to trunk calling apply to all trunks, or could it be set specific to certain trunks? Customer is wary of security implications of trunk to trunk.

Many thanks
