Hi all,

Thanks in advance. We are running the Avaya IP 500, with IP Office Manager Version 6.2(14) if that helps.

Some of my users are running the IP Softphone (IP Office Phone Manager PC Softphone Ver 4.2.19)

We have the issue when one of our users will call another company that has several options on there auto attendant menu, after about 8-9 digits the softphone will not let us put in additional #'s. Is there a limit or somewhere that I can change this setting?

not had any problems with mine, i only use it about 50% of the time, once in a while in the office but mostly at home over software vpn. never had any complaints

what type of headset are they using? USB headsets are so far the best I have tried and there is also a different between the noname stuff and plantronics (my stolen one was a DSP-400 and worked well)

Tom
I use a desktop these days, so no built in mic and softphone doesn't run well on my Linux laptop

We use the following:

Plantronics DA 40 - USB Connector and
the Plantronics SupraPlus H251N - Headset

Tom Mills,

What is the difference between the Softconsole and the Phone Manager?

Softphone? or Softconsole?
Softphone is an IP phone on a PC or laptop (needs two licenses phone manager pro and phone manager IP enabled)
phone manager is an aid to an existing hard phone
Softconsole is also an aid to an existing hard phone but targeted more towards reception duties and setup

Thanks Westi,

Our calls are choppy over the Softphone and we only have 5 users using the Softphone so I can not see that being an overload by any means on the PRI.

I was wondering if one was better than the other to eliminate the choppy sounds and poor performace of the Softphone

Choppy sounds could be the network being congested or the PC working hard on something else, really hard though.
Your Softphone users are on the local LAN or sitting somewhere outside and connect over VPN to the system?

uninstall qos packet scheduler in your network connection to alleviate choppy audio.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

Westi,

We have Softphone users on our local lan and outside connecting via a VPN connection. Both have issues.

Photon33,
I will try that. I thought that I needed the QOS for the VoIP.

if the inside people have the same issue then it should not really be a bandwidth problem except if you have huge packets going across the LAN, try what Photon33 suggested and see if it helps.

Westi,

Thanks. Do you have tour QOS uninstalled?

For the record i dont, but that doesnt mean it wont change anything.

I got in trouble for suggesting someone turn that off a couple of days ago :) I always turn it off, solve many issues. I have also seen Skypr break things.....that takes a while to troubleshoot as you say :)

are they getting choppy audio on all calls or just some calls?

and does it happen just external or internal to internal too?

softphone to DS? softphone to softphone? that kind of thing

The choppy calls come and go, they may make 5 calls and it is okay and then the next few calls are choppy.

It seems to be more of the external calls and not as much as the internal calls.

our users use the softphone but I had to give some of them the 4610 SW IP phones since we do collection calls

are you able to mointer the network and see what is happening when they get choppy calls? or the computer as westi suggested

I uninstalled the QOS from one pc and that person is testing.
I do not have anything in place to monitor other than using RDP to connect to the pc to check it out, the users do not have the rights to install anything but I will check.
