I am trying to trouble shoot an ongoing problem. I am running win2k server with sp2 and exch server 5.5 with sp4.
I have noticed using taskmanager that STORE.EXE is using alot of my memory, 224meg out of 392meg total memory in the server. With everything else that is running, i only have about 5meg free at times. Is there a way to limit STORE.EXEs memory usage? I have not been able to find anything yet on microsofts KB site. Thank you for any advice.

I dont know of a way to do this but I have read there is no harm in this. Your server SHOULD ONLY BE RUNNING EXCHANGE.

If you add more memory, STORE.EXE will use it and should release memory when other apps need it.

I read this on MS Technet section.

My server is just running Exchange. I did not know that store.exe would release memory if it was needed. I am just trying to trouble shoot a problem that i am having with the server running exchange locks up about once a week when it is cleaning the information store.

Thank you for the response and info.

My Exchange 5.5 server is a file server, intranet server (IIS 4.0), owa, and runs norton antivirus for exchange. So far, store.exe has been releasing memory when needed.

It's all on a Compaq Proliant (~450) with 256 megs of ram, for a company of ~20 users.

Although I haven't run into too many problems yet,I would recommend that people don't do this; I'm kinda stuck because I work at a non-profit, and my budget is peanuts.........
