Hello everyone! I am fairly new to XP Pro, using advanced file sharing. I wondered if there was a simple way or program to limit bandwidth for each user. I figured since I already have each user/password configured for the machine, why re-install FTP server and then create the same accounts for the FTP server. Only reason to do that would be if I am unable to limit user/group bandwidth. So if there is a way/program to limit bandwidth on a user/group basis in XP Pro, I would appreciate knowing about it ;)

Ho wmany users do you have?
How much bandwidth do you want to restrict them to?
Normally this would be a function of your router.

I'm just sharing a cable connection with my roomates. Using ICS on XP which is a NAT proxy server. No router. I am going to limit the upstream bandwidth to 10k for any given user.

I'm still interested in this too - got no usable response when I asked previously.

I don't think you should even need to do that. ICS will slow things down enough on its own.

Thanks Bobg1. I really appreciate your help answering my question. ICS has a very minimal, unnoticable effect on bandwidth (the same as the other NAT/Proxy servers I have used) Out of all the speed, throughput and bandwidth testing, with ICS on and off, testing from all computers, there was about a 2% difference, so thats giving a given user more upstream bandwidth than I want them to have, >10K. So yes, I should do it if I want to have some bandwidth to play with for myself and still have people downloading files off my comp. FTP server will do it, I just thought it would be stupid to set up all the user accounts in two different areas since I already have the same users set up to access the comp. Any suggestions that HELP are greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I have researched into those with no success. I guess Windows 2000 had some support using ACS, but this feature is not in XP. Thanks though smah! If I find anything, I'll be sure to let you guys know!
