Hi, I would like to get some opinions on how to license/protect my dll?

I created a DLL for my app registration purposes,(it manages and check reg info).

Now I will distribute this DLL with my app, but how will I prevent someone from stealing it and using it's functionality in their own apps...I guesse I can internaly password protect the functions, i.e, specify a certain password when calling function.

Then, what If I want to sell this dll to other developers, what will prevent them from using my dll on 10 of their apps, but only letting me know about 5 of them???

Thanks in advance

So, just to be clear, you want to license your licensing DLL?

Am I the only person who finds this amusing?

I'll have a think about it - it's an interesting problem...

Yeah, I use it to license my apps, when the login executes it calls the dll

But....I want to secure my dll in some way....

(Are you doing me favours or is it just you and me that can open the Tek-Tips Website lately...?)

I just got into your problem - I like classes...

How to license the licensing though - that's a good one...

The big problem is that it's not just the Developer that would need the license, but also the user of their application as well.

You might want to read about the licensing on ActiveX controls - it's a while since I wrote any, but I seem to recall they have the concept of RunTime and DesignTime licensing...
