Hi I have just inherited a storagetek 9714 with legato that i know absolutely nothing about. I have managed with the basics but (and this is very basic)can anyone tell me how to delete recycable tapes? the libary is full of them and wont backup because there are no more tapes available, also what and why is/are (R) beside some tapes ? i presume it means read only but why ? and lastly i tried to change the cleaning tape and a normal tape was ejected ? and now i cant ge it to load, i can see a cleaning tape but it is obviously not loaded in the correct slot. How do i eject it ? Thanks in advance all advice appreciated.

1. Deleting tapes
This can either be done by deleting them from the database, or - even easier -
by relabeling them.

2. Correct, (R) stands for read-only.
There are several reasons why a tape will become read-only. Most likely the tape has been filled or it became recyclable.

3. NW usually reserves the last slot in a jukebox for a cleaning tape.
To eject it, use nsrjb and put it into the mailslot (CAP).

Please download the admin guide and the manual pages from Legato's web server:

Just a precision:
You have to declare a new cleaning tape :

1) insert it in a reserved xxx slot:
nsrjb -d -Sxxx

2) Define the number of cleanings (20 for example):
nsrjb -U 20 -S xxx
