My backups started failing the other day with random clients, the error message is as follows:-

* lonadm1:/ 1 retry attempted
* lonadm1:/ save: RAP error: Unable to grant SERVER (UNIVERSAL) CLIENT license to client lonadm1: Too many clients. Maximum is 50

This is strange as I have got 50 client licenses and 41 are in use. Has anyone come across this before and if so how does one resolve it?

As the only possibility would be to add additional licenses, i suggest you contact support. It looks like a bug.

on the cmdline issue : nsrlic -vvv

checkthe output if any systems consumes licenses.

Do You have clusters ?
With Netware and Unix/Linux-Clusters every IP-Address which is used in a save process consumes a license.

This is what I get:-

SERVER/CLUSTER CLIENT TYPES
AIX: 8
Digital UNIX: 1
HP UX: 13
HP MPE: 0
Linux: 0
NetWare: 0
Network Appliance: 0
IBM DYNIX/ptx: 0
SGI: 0
Solaris: 21
SunOS: 0
UnixWare: 0
Windows NT Server: 0

So we have seven spare ones, I have put a call into our Legato Support people to see what they come back with.

was this a single purchase or did u buy a recent pack..if you have a brought a recent pack....
Try adding the enabler code through Configuration -> Registration -> New -> enter the enabler code and then check……(thru NMC)
