Reasonly my company was affected with a virus I now need to install some pix or asa could some one help me with a simulator or some other on-line cbt nugget type trainning to accomplish this missing skils

Well, what exactly are you trying to accoomplish? Was it a virus or a trojan? How did it get there? Are you wanting to run IDS, IPS, CBAC? Do you have a need for VPN's? More importantly, do you have Cisco SDM? This is a GUI based configuration tool that can guide you thru---the ASA's I believe have this built in.

Well, I was wondering how this virus came into your network---this seems to be the motivating factor for them wanting you to implement a PIX or ASA. These devices for the most part aid in security as in, making systems very difficult to compromise and steal/manipulate/destroy data, and for VPN concentration, and overall network control. Virus prevention is more on the user side of things, mainly on the users being properly educated. I will certainly help where I can---I will check my email.

Just the emphasize on what Burt has said.The PIX and ASA isn't the best solution for preventing Virus infestation.The PIX first and main role is to keep out Hackers from stealing and your network.
These devices offer a little protection against virus attacks.I don't think the PIX should be consider in your situation.You can find better Enterprise solutions for Anti-virus prevention.

The ASA's do have the new modules that will filter viruses but you will still need it at the pc level (flash drives and encrypted traffic.)

I don't have that offhand but let me check around. My CCSP was far easier than my CCNP. I get a lot more work off the SP than the NP. So I say go for it.
I am thinking about the CCIE security next year.

Hi supergrrover it seems as getting some skills in ciso ccsp is the way to go. did you build a lab if so what all you needed and how much would it cost to build a lab to learn thse skills

I didn't have a lab for most of it, but I did have to work on live equipment to get it up and running so I had that going for me. The VPN concentrator stuff completely sucked. It was mostly screen memorization.
Now you can get an ASA5505 and an 870 router and do most of it. If you can get those and a switch you should be good to go. I have most of the Cisco books and this site helped a bunch.
