Hi All

We have an Access database located on a network that on occasion, but far from all the time, leaves a lockfile hanging, and then as a result the database won't re-open. The .ldb file is on the Task Manager, so is at PC level rather than server, and the hanging event happens both through the coded button to quit the application ('DoCmd.Quit') and through the MSAccess Menubar File/Exit route. The problem is created by the user who exits (the lockfile is owned by that user) so we know it's not an issue of users crashing out of the db through unorthodox means.

I know there could be a myriad of possible reasons for this but... any ideas? I'm at a loss in how to diagnose the cause.

I've come across the problem before when using certain ActiveX controls that prevent Access from shutting down correctly. Although it appears to have exited completely checking Task Manager shows that it is in fact still running and keeping the database open.

The only answer I've found is not to use those particular ActiveX controls.

Ed Metcalfe.

Thanks Ed, but not used any ActiveX controls on this db - there's very little on there that isn't fairly basic Access fare - not really any coding to speak of either apart from that created by MSAccess Wizards.

(I tried not to feed the trolls, but one bit my hand on the way past...)
