Large files when saving as a different version 1

I have saved a Powerpoint file from a version created on Office XP to a version that can be opened on any version e.g. Powerpoint 95, 97 2000.
The origional file was 22mb and the new file is 240mb, is this right or can someone explain why this happenes??

The file is huge because it includes a version for powerpoint 95. Powerpoint 95 did not have any kind of compression features when it saved files.

A regular powerpoint 2002/XP file can be opened in powerpoint 97, 2000 without doing any thing special.
Any features (animations for example) that are new to powerpoint 2002/XP are just converted as best as they can be.

If you want to maintain the most compatible files with older versions of powerpoint, it's probably best to turn off the new features in powerpoint 2002/XP

In powerpoint
Tools menu > options > edit > disable new features - tick all 3 boxes
