I have a users running Windows 2000 Pro SP2 and Office 2000 with all the updates applied from the MS site. When trying to print a word document to our HP LaserJet 4050N, it prints but almost as if there is a massive margin on the right and some of the test/graphics are chopped off. We have changed the paper type from Letter to A4 and altered the margins but I cannot seem to get it to print in it's entirety. The problem shows on the print preview window as well. I have changed the Normal.dot template and reinstalled office and the printer driver with one I know works because we tested it on another win2k laptop.

In Excel, print preview shows graphs on portrait mode and the columns are all elongated but it prints out fine.

Any help much appreciated

Found out yesterday on Google Groups that it is a printer driver problem. Word uses the driver to generate the Print Preview. Here's how it was fixed.

First, you can try changing the printer driver. But that won't work in Windows 2k, where you are printing to a network printer. Here's what we did (in Windows 2k):

1. Start the Add Printer wizard from your printers folder.
2. Make it a LOCAL PRINTER. (Do not auto-detect)
3. Select Create New Port and Standard TCP/IP Port as the Type.
4. Type in the IP Address of the printer you are going to use.
5. Choose a generic printer driver. E.g. We used the HP LaserJet 4000 driver for our HP 4050N printer.
6. Don't share.
