I hope this is the right forum if not please advise.

My organisation has a network with a domain running on a windows 2000 server. The scenario is that i have a visitor from another organisation that has come with their own laptop configured for another domain/network that would like to be pluged into our system so that they can be able to access the internet(Specifically).

Q1. Can this be done without altering the configurations already set on the laptop for another domain.

Q2. How would i go about setting this up.

I am thinking that if i used the network identification feature i will obviously lose the current settings and profile so thats where i am stuck for ideas...help?

Make sure the that user logs in locally.

Configure laptop in the IP range of your network. Perferably, a static address. Configure to match subnet.
enter your routers addresss in their gateway.

Configure dns to match your IP dns server.

DO not add the laptop to ad.

Will have access to your internet but should be unable to browse.

Sorry , it should be

configure the dns settings, laptop, to match your ISP DNS Server

Thanks i will let you know how this one goes...

i would make sure this visiting laptop has updated virus protection running. personally, i attempt to get visitors to use a dial-up before granting them access to our network. for those that must pull / push large files, i ask them to run a virus scan before giving them a hot jack. and then as enbw said, configure the proxy address or gateway. we also keep a few pcmcia network cards that can be used so as not to re-address the integrated NIC settings...

Buddafish is dead right. I wouldn't allow a laptop to be connected unless I was there.

If your vistor is on site for a significant period of time then you should look at another alternative if possible and get them to sign some sort of policy.

Mind you, I don't let our laptop users have access to configure network settings. Hence, if they are working remotely they have to go through a dial-up.
