I'm trying to set up a connection between a few computers in a room and have struck a problem. The computers were setup and working properly until the teachers decided to move them around without consulting me (i'm a systech at a school). Anyways after reconnecting all the machines they don't seem to be recieving a network connection.

There are 6 ports in the room and the patch panel which they are connected to leads to an old 10MB KTX hub. I am not that familiar with swtiches or hubs at all at the moment. On the hub when all the cables are connected to it only 2 of them seem to showing a connection (green lights on).

Does anyone have any clue at all what could be the problem?

I have tried different network card in one of the machines and also tried changing the ports. I'm in the process of changing cables now which i'm not too sure if is necessary or not but i'm willing to try anything.

Also there are 2 red lights on the hub which are labelled rx and partition. Only the partition one is on. Could anyone please explain to me what these 2 lights mean?

THanks Alot for any help.

Sounds like your hub is plugged into another hub or switch twice causing a loop.

If that is not the case, check the computer's NIC settings. A 10mb hub runs only at 10mb half-duplex.
