Hi all. A little help needed if anyone can. I'm building a new PC to do some serious video editing. I'm looking to start a new busniss in 6 to 12 months in video/dvd production (weddings/busness services etc) but want to spend the next year learning (Premier/Maya/Some DVD creation software/Camera Techniques - that sort of thing - if any one has any words of wisdom and advice on this it would be much appreciated before trying to get it off the ground.
So back to the point of the thread
I want to build a good PC able to what I want and quickly but we seem to be at a junction in changing standards with chipset, memory speeds etc. I'm looking to spend around £1500 + or - £300 (probably +). Here are my options that I have considered so far:
Standard Parts:
Neon light Case (comes with 350watt PSU - Is this enough for the options below - advice on this would be helpful)
Athlon XP 1800+ (unless prices drop again in the next 7-10 days and I'll get something a little faster)
Creative Audigy Platinum
Gainwood GF4 4600Ti (Incrediably expensive I know at £310 but as I'm building a new PC I thought I might aswell - be nice to see the differnce from my current GF2 ultra)
Other components this is the option part:
Option 1:
Asus KT333 Raid
1GB PC2100 DDR
2x 60Gb Maxtor ATA133 Drives to run in Raid 0 (is there a big improvement in performance running two drives in raid 0 over a single drive twice its size - don't know too much about raid?)
Option 2:
A KT266A motherboard
1Gb PC2100 DDR
Western Digital 120 GB Hard drive with 8Mb Cache (I Looked at the review of this on Tomshardware.com but there didn't seem to be much improvement over the standard 2Mg Cache model.
Option 3:
Asus KT333 Raid
1GB PC2100 DDR
Western Digital 120 GB Hard drive with 8Mb Cache
Option 4:
Asus KT333 Raid
1GB PC2700 DDR (problem here is that here in the UK - we can only get Generic PC2700)
Western Digital 120 GB Hard drive with 8Mb Cache
Option 5:
Asus KT333 Raid
1GB PC2700 DDR (problem here is that here in the UK - we can only get Generic PC2700)
2x 60Gb Maxtor ATA133 Drives to run in Raid 0
Well you get the point - there seems to be that many combinations I could probably go on forever.
Any other options (that don't add to my confusion) or comments about anything is very much appreciated - As I said I want something fast to practice on (as fast as possible within buget and when I get the whole business thing going I can look at Clawhammer, DDR400 and what ever is to follow ATA133.
Well thats given me a headache now, thinking of all that - hope its not given you one having read it (for those of you still with me at the end
)
Thanks for all your help
Paul.
