I just purchased an 8G Kingston SD card, I get the message "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error" Yet I plug it into my laptop and it works fine, I don't understand? Any help appreciated.
Both computers are using XP OS.

Does the system that is having the issue support SDHC cards?

However if you are running XP SP3 you should not have to install this.

The hardware has to support SDHC as well, not just the software. If you have a card reader that's not compatible with SDHC cards there's nothing you can do (except buy a new card reader).

If it isn't lets face it, a USB to SD converter comes free with boxes of cornflakes these days.

SD 'HC' high capacity....many of the older card readers struggle reading cards over 2gig....
you need to be looking for one that reads high capicity types.

Thanks for all the input, looks like it may be time to upgrade. The computer is pretty old.

No need to upgrade just for an SD reader!
They are a couple of notes on Amazon!

Does this look like something that would work? They are only about $10 on buy.com

I have seen this reader bundled with flash cards up to 32gig so despite not actually saying HC it obviously is.
Should work well.
