ive tried just jumping the wires and tried allsorts of combinations......nothing worked. its usually a ps/2 connector and there are only 5 or 6 wires that are in use.

for those that dont know what im talking about....i want to be able to boot older comps without keyboards attached.

kimbertech , a member here , suggested a loopback device in place of the keyboard. im just wondering what parts i need to build one(loopback), plans to build one or where to buy one and try to duplicate it. ant suggestions would be appreciated thanks.

wonder if a mouse plugged into it would make it boot...
also here is an explination of the connecter
you should be able to trick it somehow...

ps2 keyboard connector
Connector:PS2 1 data
2 reserved
3 GND
4 +5V
5 clock
6 reserved
Also used for PS2 mice, they are interchangable except for the data format.

BIOS sends a reset signal, then gets a reply from the keyboard. Without something putting a recognizable keyboard signal back I don't think you will be able to do this.
Somewhere I saw a dummy plug that had the reply signal built in but I don't remember where. Ed Fair

This is correct..Ed..you can buy loopback devices that send the signal back even though there is no device really attached.
There are different models for parallel ports also, techs use them for testing ports etc.

Even if your computer is set up for a PS2 Keyboard, a serial loopback will work as it would simulate a serial keyboard, and you can use either.

Good luck to you. I pledge to share any information I have and advise to the best of my knowledge based on the information provided.
