I have notice a few CICS and MICS that allow the station user to place a call form the dial pad without selecting a line or I/C button. They simply for example dial 9 on the key pad and get an outside line. Or they just dial an ext. number and the phone rings.

At first I thought it was just with the Compact 6X16's but I worked on a MICS today and they can do the same thing. Is this a feature setting?

Any advantages or disadvantages to this?

Thanks!

Sorry

F*82 then select type of dialing you want.
All depends on the Pime Line in Config programming also where the prime line is Intercom, Line Pool or a specific line.

If they're dialing 9 for an outside line, then all their lines have been either assigned to a pool grp or a route and 9 is the access code or destination code. If all sets have been programmed to have intercom dt when the handset is picked up then there's no reason to press intercom button to dial an extension. As soon as the handset is lifted the intercom button indicator comes on.

Thanks. Can this be set per ext. set or is this a global setting? Do you find that customers like one setting or another better?

Curly is right.....F*82. Default is 'standard dial' (must pickup handset or hit i/c or handsfree). You can also choose 'predial' (digits show up on display, but set doesn't go off hook util you manually take it off hook), or 'automatic dial' ( as soon as you touch a digit, you're off hook). It sounds like you want automatic dial. It is not a global setting, rather a set-by-set feature setting.

Thanks. BTW what does "Leading Digit 9" mean? I can't seem to pull up any info. in my doc. to explain this feature.

leading digit 9 means that the first digit dialed is a 9, this is the "normal" outside line access code for the majority of systems. when you are using 9 as an access code for the outgoing pools or as an access code for "external code" this number is automatically discarded and the digits following are then sent to the outside lines. when you are programming route tables and destination codes you as the programmer decide whether or not the leading access code is deleted or passed on to the outside lines (this is done when you have something like centrex where you need to dial 9 again to get a true outside line.)

BTW is this available for R1 T1? I can't find it under CAPABILITIES.

But ROUTING is not available on the R1T1, wasn't introduced until NA-MICS 2.0. So more than likely you are using LINE POOL ACCESS codes. To tell this, when you press 9, do you immediately get dial tone, or at least a line name in the phone display (ie: Line004)??

Yes, I have set this up for two calling groups for two department that use two different pilot number. 9 for group 1 and 8 for group 2.

So will F*82 allow me to set a global setting so for example they can just dial from the dial pad 8+555-1212 without pressing an I/C key? Or is this programmed as a per set option?

yes, it was a feature that has been available since the Norstar was introduced.

Can the customer dial from the CID Log?

Brewsky ...
Routing first showed up in R1T1 actually.
But it was a PITA.
The only options for absorb were all or none, which created some nightmare routing scenarios when you used one T1 for local and another for LD.
