My company is using legacy free compaq ipaq's with win2000 we are starting to have an issue with the keyboard. It will stop responding. The only way that we have been able to fix it to reboot. Not everyone is having this problem but it is starting to show up more and more. Everything else, like the mouse, still seems to work but the keyboard. Any idea's.
As a side note we are using powermanagement but have had the keyboard stop responding when a user is working.
Thanks for any suggestions

well, the first thing i'd try is to test out another keyboard, and make sure the keyboard is not at fault.. believe me, i've had people ask "why isn't my printer printing" and it's like "hello, you know where the on button is?"

Yeah, we've tried replacing first the keyboard and then the pc. This problem is affecting multiple users but isn't consistent with any one person. We have just deployed 1800 new compaq ipaq's with 10% being affected by this problem. So far only rebooting the pc is helping.

Funnily enough, I have this problem with my PC every now and again. I think that there is some DLL which, when activated is overloading my keyboard buffer and not releasing the memory for it again.
Have a look to see if you have any software on these particular machines that might not be on the others.

All PC's are using the same image. A Compaq rep claimed that this is a know issue and he will provide the fix but hasn't done so as of yet.

The same problem arose in a network I set up. 15 of those Compaq iPaqs, and 10 of them had keyboard problems from day one. After about 30 hours of un-billable time trying to fix them, we sent all 15 back, and got 15 Dell's instead. (Not my choice, but...) There were a LOT less service calls after that. Never did resolve the issue with Compaq. Cheers,
