My users keyboard is dropping as soon as the Win98 login screen appears. It works in Safe Mode and it works without loading windows via dos. Where should I start looking at this? My guess is a device driver or something.

Mr. Blonde

Check in the device manager, see if it's giving you a standard keyboard driver in there.

Jeff

The driver is a standard 101 -102 or Microsoft Natural keyboard... Now what?

This is a tricky issue. Could be anything from the physical port (I doubt it) to TSR or hidden programs robbing the wrong controller bit.

I would research your BIOS and see if there is an update to the BIOS for your machine.

I would also clear the CMOS and re-start to see if it will reset the proper routing to devices. (try this first) Check your user manual for the machine...you can usuallre-set the CMOS by removing and replacing the jumper pin located next to the battery.)

Check Device Manager for IRQ and other conflicts. This wouldn't be a USB keyboard by any chance?

Try a different keyboard if you can (hardware test on keyboard - or keyboard controller on motherboard may be bad).

Try removing the keyboard driver and let Windows reinstall it. Has your machine ever had an older version of Windows on it (may be getting the wrong drivers)?

Hi
In safe mode, remove the keyboard driver/s.
Restart in normal mode and let your OS to load its own drivers.
Good luck

Ma5!!!

That did it. I've gone 6 or 7 reboots without a reoccurance. Thanks!
