Hi everyone,

I have an IBM ThinkPad (A22m) and I have certain keys that don't respond like normal. I've only realized this because this is the first time I'm working from home and I have no problems when I work in the office (I connect the laptop to a docking station).

Here the problem...the following keys are typing numbers instead of the letter:

J => 1
K => 2
L => 3
U => 4
I => 5
O => 6
P => *

All the other letter keys respond normally. What's going on? Someone please help because I can't accessing anything that requires a password (i.e. Lotus Notes) with the above letters.

Thanks,
dbew

Oh and by the way, those numbers (or asterisk) appear on the lower right-hand corner of the actual key, so it's not random. Thank you!

Try Fn + NumLock. Laptops have a "key Pad" im the middle of the keyboard. On most that I have seen, the function and NumLock key toggle it on and off.

You have inadvertently engaged the PadLock feature of your laptop. this is designed to allow for one handed number input. Normally those keys will only type numbers if you hold down the Fn/Function button before hitting the keys. Padlock reverses the function and causes the keys to default to numbers. ALL the keys that have extra function are controlled by the Fn/Function key, and show that function, as you described, on the lower portion of the key (often different color too)

I am not on an IBM, but it will be similiar:
Look for a key on your keyboard called Pad Lk, or PadLock, etc. If not that, hold Fn/Function and press Numlock.

hope this helps-
