I've been having this problem with playing a video game on my machine. During play in the game if I hold down a key on the keyboard for a length of time the keyboard freeze up and I have to use the power button to shut down my machine. The mouse still works and I can get around in the game, but my player keeps moving in the same direction as the button i was holding when the keyboard freezes. Any ideas? Is there any registry key that can turn this off?

Sounds like you are filling the keyboard buffer.
Try tweaking the keyboard repeat rate. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Keyboard
Increase the repeat delay and/or slow down the repeat rate.

Ed Please let me know if the suggestion(s) I provide are helpful to you.

thanks, I'll try it. It may take a while to repeat the error as it was only happening in certain times. I want to say it was happening when there was more happening on screen graphically, but I don't think that is true.

We found a bug about 6 mo ago that that microsoft had not published anything on. It involved certain versions of visual basic and certain keyboard combinations that would lock up the keyboard. We were able to "un-lock" the keyboard by going into control panel>keyboard and making a change, any change and then closing the applet. We have not seen the bug since we started using sp3. I suggest that you either apply or re-apply sp3.

Sorry I don't have any more details on the "bug". At the time, I was too busy with other projects and just re-loaded NT4 on the workstation.
