Keyboard does not funciton

I have a VC++ 6 application which uses a COM to do scanning. As you know, while scanning, it will bring up the default TWAIN data source interface. After scanning, we want to keep the data source interface open. But the keyboard for the main applicaiton does not work anymore unless the user close the TWAIN interface. Does anybody know how to solve this problem: keep the keyboard working for the main applicaiton while leaving the TWAIN data source interface open?
