I have a keyboard and monitor manual server switch. With my NT 4.0 Servers they all boot up happily without the presence of a keyboard (i.e. when the switch is not positioned for using that particular equipment). However, on my Windows 2000 server, if the switch is not positioned correctly upon booting, neither mouse nor keyboard respond (the mouse isn't even on the server switch), although the server responds via network.

I have set up the BIOS correctly. I have also installed 2k server, pro and nt 4.0 both 2k server and pro present the same problem, however, nt 4.0 boots up fine on that machine.

Does anybody have any ideas ? At present I leave the 2k server always switched in case of a blackout, however, shortly i shall be migrating all servers to win2k...

Please!

HI..... I have this same problem .. it is a known problem with win2k. Microsoft (there is a KB article about it) advised that the fix is to check the firmware revision of your KVM, some of them can be upgraded to fix this problem. Mine couldn't so I just have to live with it.

Good luck

Thanks very much for your kind reply. Sorry could you please confirm what KVM is, am not familiar with that abreviation.

Thanks.

KVM is Keyboard Video Mouse (switch), also called a Belkin Box after the most prominent manufacturer of them.
