Found a related thread, thread616-616243, but was wondering if there isn't an easier way?

I'm trying to map keys to ESC, ~ and TAB keys as I have some broken keys on my laptop (external keyboard works fine, some problem occurs when using a boot disk). Not being able to use ESC and TAB is really inconvenient . . .

I'm using Win 2000 Pro - are there no built in tools to do this? Perhaps for handicapped users, etc? I don't mind if it's an awkward key combination (CTRL-SHIFT-F6 etc), so long as I can use the keys again.

There's an applet on the w2k resource kit called remapkey.exe this does exactly that, you could remap a key that you rarely use.

Thanks - I think I will map ESC to one of the ALT keys or something for now. However, it seems that this strictly maps key scanning codes, and doesn't allow for key combo settings, for example, CTRL-SHIFT-F2 = ESC . . . do you know of a way to do this? (The reason I'm asking is b/c I'm using a laptop and I need to assign TAB key as well, but there's no other unused keys on the keyboard...)
