Keep Together when underlying groups cross pages

I have a rather complex report with 10 gh/gf combos to get proper sorting and control breaks. Not all are displayed.

GH1
..
GH3
...
GH8
GH9
GH10
..
GF10a,b
..
GF1
PF
RF

The footers contain subreports that with detail sums and formats.
I've tried myriad combinations of keep together, keep group together, page breaks to get acceptable output and cant seem too. GH3 is the major breaking point with the most "detail" (read: underlying group headers and footers) that often span pages. With "keep group together" on GH3, if all of the follwoing "details" can fit on one page, alls swell. If the "details" for GH3 CANT fit on one page, the next GH3 will go on a page by itself (if there's a page break on GF3) and then the "details" on a separate page or pages. Without a page break on GF3, GH3 will follow the previous footer but Crystal STILL puts the details on the next page.
It's WAY strange???

Anyone??
Nik.

Which keep together are you using?

If you right click the group and select change group, you'll se an Option tab which has a keep together which handles keeping groups together, as opposed to the keep together for a section.

It is a tad unpredicatble though.

I've tried 'em both. It seems if I put the keep together group option on H3, I get H3 pushed to the top of next page followed by the rest blank with the underlying details on ANOTHER page. If I leave that option off, I get H3 following right AFTER the previous footer - and often ANYWHERE on the page where the previous group ended from the top to very bottom - with the underlying details STILL on the next page EXCEPT where there is enough room to fully put all the details on the same page. I have not id'd keep group together for ANY other levels.

You've mentioned what you've observed and don't want happening, what do you want?

Post technical information as well:

Crystal 11. I'd be happy with the report simply breaking at the natural bottom of the page. I've tried putting a page break after GF3 to coincide with a new GH3 with no keep togethers with still unpredictable results. What I get there is a new GH3 on a new page, if the underlying details will fit on one page, CR will put them there, if not, it will leave the rest of the page blank and put the details on the next page.

If I can figure out how to post some example output, I will.

Thanks!

You don't need much sample data.

I would turn off all of the keep togethers if you want continuous output, including on the subreports and their sections, and whatever sections they are in within the main report.

Hmmm.... Will have a look at the subreports. All the keep togethers are off on the main report sections.

For subreports, you might want to go to format->subreport->common and uncheck "keep object together".
