Hi guys,
I really hope some one can help me here. I have been building a pc and am having a slight problem. It just will not boot the hard drive. I tried changing the PSU, the CPU, the Motherboard, The Hard drive, cleaning the memory, changing the Ide cables. And still it will not boot or even try to boot the hard drive. I am however using an oldish pc case, but I was thinking that it would not have anything to do with the problem. Please give me your best . Like many, I am still learning. Thanks .

This is the specs I have been using.

Winfast 754 MB
AMD xp 3000 – 2.0 MHZ Processor tried different processor
200 Gig HD- tried different ones
FX 6200 Nvidia Graphics card
1 Gig of Crucial RAM

The case shouldn't be a problem. Can you get to the BIOS? If you can does it show the HD?

No, cannot acess the bios. I am thinking on the lines of c-moss resetting. So I guess I will see how it goes then.

A few things, first off are you using the power supply that came with the case? If you are let us know and immediately quit using it. Case power supplies are death traps.

Also on the motherboard there usually is another 4 or 8 pin connection besides the main 24 pin. This must be connected for proper boot.

When you try turning this computer on does it turn on and then turn off? Does it stay running continuously and display no video?

When you put it in the case, did you put spacers in it plastic/metal to keep it from grounding on the case?

Well, as I have attempted to build it myself, I have used a couple of psu's, to see if they were the problem. The present one is 400 . At the moment I am not too sure what you meant about the motherboard connectors. Is that not the two I connect from the psu, 4+8. I downloaded the MB manual tonite so I shall be looking for the 24 pin you mentioned. God, I hope I have not been that stupid.

When switched on it stays on, but does not turn the HD over. And has no vidio.
I did put spacers in, they were sort of brass ones.

woops, I did it again. I have connected the two you mentioned. One was 4 and the other was 20, from the psu.

Before you turn it on, make sure the board isnt grounded to the case.

These metal connectors keep the motherboard from shorting out on the case. The motherboard can not be screwed directly flat onto the case without spacers. If you do the board will fry.

Thanks Electronicsfreak, I will certainly have a goood look at that asap.

Cheers.

I have a Dell Dimension E310 pc. i am experiencing several problems.

1.- This computer is getting very slow. it is a new computer that is only one year old. if I have a windows open and then close it, it takes forever for the icons on the desktop to appear normal. Slowly one by one, the turn into normal icons that i can recognize. It's like it takes forever to refresh.
2. i can't seem to send pictures across the Internet. They seem to sit in the outbox, and it says it is trying to send, but it will sit in there for days, and then i will just delete it from there. I'm using Microsoft Outlook. i used to send these pics ok before, it's just now that everything seems to be slowing down. I've also cleaned out the temp folders,(all) of them, and I have also cleaned up the registry with Registry Fix.

Please help

Thanks,
