I can't imagine what I would have done if I had access to a site like this when I was in college. Sorry, the thought just crossed my mind. Continue on with your business Kevin

I've seen some posts that have said something like, "My professor wants me to do blah blah blah, any ideas how I can do that?" Then they'll top it off with, "I need this as soon as possible." HAHA
Open the book and start workin' then! Kevin

and worst, there are real programmers here waiting for us to develop for them (see thread232-42179, thread232-42904, thread232-41477 and thread232-42100 : basically "my company wants me to do that but i don't have any idea on what is computer science !! what is a variable please ?" !!!!!!!!)
hey give us some of your pay !
and btw i was wondering if i can/should redflag those ?
I just got through reading those posts...wow! I know I have come here for help on a few occasions, that's how I found this site, but they were simple oversights on my part and were easily remedied.
I have a couple for you. Is there a special way to post the link to a thread?
I have redflagged one post since I started coming here. It was pretty bad.
"Is there a special way to post the link to a thread?" --> you mean, just like i did above, with the "threadxxx-yyyy" ? i only copied/pasted the link just under the title of the thread ...
what do you mean "it wad pretty bad", red flagging or the thread ?
i don't really care if a student wants some help on a homework, nor if a developper needs helps, what is really bothering me is when you feel that the person asking has never ever opened the doc, or really searched what could be wrong ...
Oh I agree. There is an obvious difference between someone who is stuck and someone who is using you. Everyone needs a second set of eyes each once in a while. I know I do, and I very much appreciate the help I've gotten here in the past. I think there are a couple of problems I would still be working on if it weren't for this place. It's the people who say, "How do I do blah." You give them an answer and they say, "Ok, that worked, now how can I make it do blah." And so on and so on. You know what I mean? Finally they just give you 200 lines of code and say, "Help me please." Hey man, I'm working here too.
"it wad pretty bad" refers to the post I redflagged. The folks that run this site had it removed within an hour of me flagging it. It was just plain rude. The guy who wrote it was calling another guy an idiot (among other things) because he didn't quite understand the difference between client-side and server-side programming. The person even said he was very new and was just asking a simple questions and the other dude got nasty. People have to understand that there are those out there who are very new to this kind of thing.
Anyway, I noticed you've been involved in these posts already, but this is what I'm talking about:
thread216-42583
thread215-42863
Please know that I don't mean to offend anyone by saying this. It's just a little much, that's all. Kevin

I can usually see somebody that's abusing the boards. I certainly hope that nobody ever feels that I abuse them (I'm not saying any of you do). I try to keep a balance between contributions I make and favors I ask for. I've noticed that most of you who help me with my problems rarely ever ask for help. That's very generous of you. What I *do* know is that anytime somebody helps me with a problem, I walk away with a substantial amount of knowledge- not just a fix to the problem. I most certainly will pass on that knowledge to somebody else in need when that time comes.
If you've ever helped me in the past, you may have figured out that I'm working on a website for a local college hockey team as a personal project that I'm NOT getting paid to do. I play hockey, I love hockey, I love building websites. I will post the URL for you all to visit once the project is complete.
and what's more, sometimes by answering you can learn a lot - i actually do !
it's just like you say bobby : what is great is when you get more than a fix, when you get new knowledge - that's why i find it cool when one tries to give a rather generic answer.
looking forward to seeing the hockey site as well !
