I need to wire up a norstar 3x8 dr5.1 with 4 stations and a music on hold only. Do I absolutely need a 66 punch in block? or could I simply look for the color on my amphenol cable and connect them directly to the 4 stations and the music on hold.

Technically, no. If I saw an install like that, however, I would be looking around for Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder........

Use the 66 block or Bix. It will make things easier down the road for troubleshooting etc. Plus it just looks better.

If I were a tech coming in after someone did what ur planning. I would walk away or tell the customer they need to pay to get the system installed properly.

If you're a business owner, a lot rides on your ability to communicate.

I suppose you could wire nut your amphenol to the appropriate cables, or even solder pairs to the male amp connector on the ksu, but why not do it right.

If you cobble it together like that, it'll cost you more to have someone come in and fix it than it would to have done it right to begin with.

There always seems to be time to do it again. So why not do it right in the beginning. Use a time warp and make the "again time" the "beginning time!"

You can get preconnectorized BIX, 110, or 66 type cross-connecting blocks. Then all you add is a double ended Amphenol connectorized cable with the appropriate genders.

You could splice the pairs together with electrical tape, or if you want to save money use duct tape. Of course you would need to cover the install with a blanket so no one saw it. And it might help to change your number so they can't find you.
Seriously a technician is only as good as their install. if you are doing this for a friend, so be it. If you are doing this as a professional you need to decide who your target customers are and what level of service you are going to offer.

Stevie and Ray are here....

About 10 years ago, our CO department was doing quite a bit of work in the middle east. My boss posted some wiring pics from Beiruit that shocked me. It's amazing what some people are willing to live with.

Quality work pays for itself over time.
