I'm trying to download pics from a Fujifilm FinePix E510 to a PC running windows 98.The FinePix viewer window opens but just hangs.I've loaded the software on a laptop running Windows 2000 and it works fine.
Anyone experienced this problem ?

Under Win98, you have to install the correct drivers in order to access a DigitalCamera... under ME, 2k, XP, this is not necessary as they contain build in drivers...

Ben

If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer...

Just to be clear, you need to install the "drivers" and the "software" on the Win98 PC.

While Ben is correct in saying that 2000 and XP normally can detect/install the drivers automatically, this is not always the case. My Kodak digital camera requires me to load a driver in 98 and 2K, but XP recognizes it in its HCL and doesn't need one.

how is your digital camera connected to your pc? if it's via usb, you also probably need to install the driver for usb 2.0 which is already available in winxp and 2k.

hope this helps. peace! [peace]

torturemind,

Most digital cameras use USB while digital camcorders tend to use firewire. Furthermore, only some of the newer "high-end" still cameras are using USB 2.0. Just about every camera I've seen that's older than 1 year, however, has only been compatible with USB 1.1. So I don't think any other drivers would be needed unless dughard is installing USB 2.0 for the first time.

If a PC has USB 2.0 ports, then the driver is likely already installed. They come with the add-in cards.
